Dr. Seidman and Dr. Goldmark are “internists,” meaning they specialize in Internal Medicine. They are trained in how to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases that affect adults. To be certified in this field requires at least 3 years of training after graduation from medical school. Although they may act as “primary care doctors”, internists are differentiated from “family practitioners” or “family doctors” whose training does not concentrate only on adults and may include obstetrics, pediatrics and surgery.
Internists are trained to take care of the many health problems that may occur in a patient and can coordinate the care required when other specialists need to be involved. They promote wellness by offering patients appropriate screening tests and immunizations. In addition, they counsel patients regarding the importance of proper diet and exercise.
